Bairns shown to have top level support – despite Falkirk’s decade out of SPFL Premiership

Falkirk’s crowd attendance is among the best in Scotland, despite the club’s lowly league status.

Falkirk may be languishing in the third tier of Scottish football for a second consecutive year – ten years since the Bairns last played at the highest level – but they’ve been shown to have a fanbase fit for the Premiership.

Research carried out by our sister title The Scotsman found the Bairns to have the 11th highest average attendance in Scotland over the past decade.

The turn-out at The Falkirk Stadium trumps the likes of Hamilton, Livingston, St Johnstone and Ross County in the top division’s 12, and also the likes of Inverness and Dunfermline in the Championship.

It’s even more remarkable since the Bairns have been outside of the top division for the past 10 years – and in League One last term with a minimal away support visiting Westfield.

Bairns boss Lee Miller said: “There’s always been brilliant support here since I was a player, and it’s been the same since David and I came back last year.

“If we start the season behind closed doors we’ll miss their backing but we know as soon as they can and it’s safe to do so, they’ll be right behind the team again, as they always have been.”

Above Falkirk in the rankings were St Mirren, Motherwell, Kilmarnock, the two Dundee clubs, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen plus Rangers and Celtic.
