John Baird will be a big miss for Falkirk in the Scottish Cup final based on his current form.
But it’s swings and roundabouts for the cup-tied striker, although he is, naturally disappointed to miss out .
“It was 15 minutes for Queen of the South against Brora Rangers,” he said, “now I’m missing out on the Scottish Cup final – it’s very, very disappointing.
“But then last season I didn’t play any Ramsdens Cup games and then came into the team for the final and scored the winner against Rangers, its gone into a turnaround – I’ll just need to take the good with the bad.”
He thought he had scored and set-up the winning goals against Rangers though.
“The two times I’ve started against Rangers I’ve managed to score – it’s one of these things.
“These last two games are basically cup finals for myself and Mark Kerr – we knew what the story was when we moved from Queen of the South but it’s still disappointing to miss out.”
Baird though has another goal against Ranger to make up for it, and though it’ll be scant consolation, he was equally pleased for team-mate Tom Taiwo who netted the second.
“No disrespect to Rangers but I felt we were the better side and played the better football on the day.
“For the second it was a great run from Tom Taiwo – he does them ten times a game and to get one at Ibrox is great for him, it was an excellent run from him.
“The boys are confident on the ball and that certainly helps at places like Ibrox. You’ve got to be brave and we were.”
Taiwo admitted there is a battle for places among the Bairns squad now ahead of the cup final on May 30. “That means we have to stake a claim against Hibs,” he said.
