Fab Four Falkirk fan? Bizarre Beatles link to Scottish League One club's training wear and Ringo Starr tweet

Peter Houston is one of Falkirk’s football legends but he may not be the most famous star to pull on the club’s navy blue top – or even tracksuit top.

The central Scotland club could well have a secret supporter in music legend Ringo Starr – after the Thomas the Tank Engine narrator was pictured wearing the same training jacket used by the Bairns.

The Beatles drummer sported a dark blue and red PUMA track jacket in one of his recent social media posts – which marked the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four appearing on the Ed Sullivan show.

But eagle-eyed Falkirk fans identified the jacket as the same brand and design worn by the players prior to the William Hill Scottish Cup Final in 2015. Falkirk lost the match 2-1 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, but boss Peter Houston sported the tracksuit top on the Hampden touchline throughout the game.

As unlikely as the link could be, it prompted Falkirk fan @Jackson_FFC to ponder: “Is Ringo a Bairn?” while retweeting the music icon’s message, and his sharp-eyed supporters have been wondering the same.

However, despite the similarities, it’s not quite known if the zipper was genuine Falkirk branded clubwear, or simply the sports brand’s leisurewear – Starr’s two-fingered peace gesture teasingly covers the right side of the garment where the famous steeple badge would be embroidered.

The Beatles legend wouldn’t be the first unlikely surprise Scottish football supporter this season either – The Wire star Isiah Whitlock Jr. revealed his bizarre allegiance to Falkirk’s neighbours Stenhousemuir late last year, and has been invited to a Warriors match at Ochilview, once permitted.
