The former Rangers defender, a Canadian under-23 international, has reportedly agreed terms with the Bairns following his release from Ibrox.

Morton had the centre-half on loan last season, and he has also spent time at Stirling Albion and Airdrie while contracted to the now SPFL Premiership side.

Yesterday, The Falkirk Herald learned that a central defender was ‘jetting in’ for a medical next week, but before his identity could be established, ex-Bairns boss Jim Duffy named the defender – currently on the other side of the Atlantic – as the likely candidate while speaking to The Greenock Telegraph.

He told the Tele: “As far as I’m led to believe Luca Gasparotto is signing for Falkirk.

“He came and impressed in all the games and impressed enough for other teams to want to take a chance on him.”

The ‘Ton boss also revealed the Cappielow club had made a bid to retain the defender.

Gasparotto would add to Peter Houston’s summer recruits James Craigen, Lewis Kidd, Liam Henderson and Nathan Austin.

The Bairns boss may still need a goalkeeper however as the Bairns released Graham Bowman and Alex Tokarczyk following the end of Danny Rogers’ loan deal. That leaves goalkeeping coach Derek Jackson with just Deniz Dogan Mehmet and young rookie Lewis McMinn between the sticks for next season.

The Bairns regroup on Thursday for the first day of pre-season before travelling to Dublin for a training camp at the end of the month.
