Eddie is an Ace between sticks

Leah Eddie insists she has no plans to keep hold of the goalkeeper gloves despite her cameo role in helping the Central Girls Football Academy complete a double success last weekend.

The Graeme High pupil was part of the team that won both the under-16 and under-17 competitions at the prestigious Aces national football tournament in Leicester.

After helping Central win the under-16 tournament on Saturday, the right back then went in goal for the under-17 event on Sunday as their regular number one Claire Whitaker was absent at a wedding.

Despite the switch, Eddie showed she was equally adept between the sticks, not conceding a single goal throughout the tournament, including during the penalty shootout in the final against Leeds.

“I normally play at right back which is my favourite position, but I also played in midfield on Saturday,” explained the Scotland under-16 cap.

“I didn’t mind volunteering to go in goal, I was excited, it’s something different. I enjoyed it and didn’t expect it to go so well but I think the normal keeper will get her place back, I definitely prefer playing on pitch.

“It was great to pick up wins in both competitions. I was nervous knowing it was going to penalties, but I just picked a side and luckily I guessed right a couple of times and was able to save a few,” added Eddie, who benefits from being a part of the SSE Next Generation programme.
