Dunipace Chairman John Marshall says Saturday’s first ever Scottish Cup match for the club has given them a taste for more in the future.

Taking part in the competition for the first time in their history, Pace were beaten 3-1 at home by Berwick Rangers in their Second Preliminary Round clash.

Despite the result, Marshall says it remains a historic day for the club and one that has made them want to aim for future successes.

He said: “It had been a long time coming getting to this point.

"We worked a long time getting the park upgraded then getting the SFA license was a hard slog and Saturday's tie felt like our first real reward for that work.

"The team did really well, we couldn't have asked for much more, but in the end it was close but no cigar.

"We were toe to toe with Berwick for most of the match and the score could have been closer than what it was.

"Now we've got a taste for competing in the Scottish Cup and we're looking forward to further adventures next year.”

The biggest disappointment of the day was of course the absence of supporters particularly with Pace taking a 1-0 lead.

"We only had the committee and those who had been working on the ground there on Saturday but there was still a massive cheer when the goal went in,” said Marshall.

“Had supporters been allowed in it probably would have been our biggest gate ever, Berwick would have brought a few hundred up.

"We were able to broadcast the match on Facebook live though, doing our best to make sure the community was involved.”
