Both clubs, along with Queen of the South and Bradford City, are joining forces to help his family establish the Chris Mitchell Foundation.

A statement on the Clyde website said the move was a tangible sign of the club’s support for Chris’s family and a tribute and thanksgiving to his impact and influence upon us all.

Scottish football was stunned by the death of the popular defender earlier this month at the age of just 27.

Donations to this fund will be used to set up a support service to help professional footballers make the transition into other employment or further education when, for whatever reason, they step back from their professional football career.

It will also seek to network with other agencies in preparing players for change and in removing any anxiety that this can create.

Clyde’s statement continued: “The family are very grateful for the many expressions of love, support and strength they have experienced in the midst of this difficult time from those who have known and loved Chris.”
