Bo’ness started off brightly with Ross Campbell having a header that went closebefore the game got a bit scrappy with both sides possibly feeling the pressure of the occasion.

United were having most of the possession without creating any clear cut chances but on the half hour that changed when Campbell nodded the ball down to Scott Gibb who volleyed over and then Marty Wright went close with a drive. The deadlock was to be broken on thirty two minutes when Bo’ness went ahead.

Ross Philp broke into the box before being fouled by Jason Quinn to concede a penalty and up stepped Will Snowdon who rifled his spot kick into the top corner. Just before the break Scott Lawrie shot wide for Dundonald but Bo’ness deservedly took a narrow lead into the second half.

United came out after the break on the front foot with Michael Gemmell almost doubling the advantage and then Stewart Devine hit the inside of the post with the rebound falling to Philp who saw his effort blocked.

Bo’ness looked comfortable but in sixty seven minutes Dundonald equalised when Aiden Hendry played a free kick wide to Derek Wallace and his cross to the back post evaded everyone and ended up in the net though, Scott Orrock was ready to pounce.

Dundonald could then have went ahead but Sean Grady flicked a chance over the bar before United got back on top and restored their lead on seventy six minutes when Stuart Hunter rose at the back post to head in a Wright corner.

The match was effectively settled on eighty three minutes when Philp did fantastically well on the bye line before driving into the six yard box and setting up Nicky Walker who tapped home.

Number four wasn’t long in coming when Gibb won a header that Fraser Eddington flicked on and Walker was on hand to round the keeper before finishing well with his left foot from an acute angle.

In injury time United made it five when substitute keeper Calum Christie saw his free kick headed on by Eddington and Wright was there to knock it into the net and round off a fantastic day for the club as they ended their cup winning drought.

Captain Stuart Hunter was delighted “A club like Bo’ness should be winning trophies and right from the word go we were up for the game. We were professional, it was an excellent team display.

“I was worried for a bit when they equalised as it’s been one of those seasons but we dug in and when we went ahead again we pushed on.

“I’m delighted for the fans, everyone behind the scenes and all who are connected to the club.”

Allan McGonigal was pleased “It’s great to get that monkey off our back, we deserved the victory but all credit to Dundonald who worked hard and the score line probably flatters us a bit.

“We were the better team throughout the game, I felt their equaliser should have initially been a free kick to us, but the boys showed a lot of determination and got their rewards.

“Winning the trophy turns an ordinary season into a very good one.”

Man of the match Ross Philp felt it was deserved “We all played well today and we deserved the trophy, though when they equalised I thought not again.”

“We rolled up our sleeves, showed our class and it’s brilliant to win something especially after the disappointment of last season.”
