Bo'ness boss Christie likes idea of Lowland League 'split' to help complete season

Bo’ness United manager Max Christie believes a potential ‘split’ in the Lowland League table could be the way forward to complete the season in a condensed time frame.

In a regular SPFL Premiership season the top half and bottom half of the league table split after 33 games and teams play the other five sides in their half once more to complete the season.

United gaffer Christie says he understands that is one of the possible solutions being discussed for the Lowland League if they are unable to play the full season and it’s something he would be in favour of.

“I think the league have spoken about a couple of options,” said Christie.

"My understanding is those include playing the full season, null and void or a potential split in the league, maybe between the top eight and bottom nine.

"It works in the Scottish Premiership and it would make sense for us I think but whatever is decided we’re just desperate to get back playing.

"It seems to work at a higher level so I don't see why it couldn't for us even in a normal year.”

Clubs across the country are still playing a waiting game but Christie says they need to be back training this month and playing by mid March at the latest if they are going to have any realistic chance of completing a full season.

"I know the government have extended lockdown through February and we're expecting another announcement next week so we will see what happens.

"It's frustrating for everybody but you have to get in the mindset of we will get there one day.”

For the time being, Christie is just making sure his players are keeping fit as best he can and focusing on recruitment with a view to next season.

"We had a zoom call just to let the players know about training sessions going and we’re just waiting to hear if and when we can get back.

"We're speaking to a few players about next season at the moment and we've started that but we've not done too much on that front.”
