Big Gordy's fightback

Gordon McFarlane, most recently the contributing editor of the club’s programme and media man, suffered a stroke in July just days before the team headed on their pre-season tour in Ireland.

Since then the Bairns die-hard has been in hospital. Following vital surgery in Edinburgh he was transferred to Forth Valley Royal and is now in Falkirk community hospital.

Substantial renovations and access is required to the family home in order for ‘Big G’ to return home to his family – wife Linda, son Colin and daughter Laura.The Falkirk family have already rallied and raised £3,000 of the anticipated £30,000 required to bring the Bairn home.

Colin explained: “We only started on Saturday and to have this already is phenomenal. A huge thank-you to everyone who is supporting us – it’s come from across the community, not just the club.

“It’s also heartening to see support from fans of other clubs too. So far it has been a real support to all the family.”Proceeds from the photobook ‘A Decade at The Falkirk Stadium‘ by close friend and former club photographer Gordon Whyte are going towards the fund, as will cash raised by sponsored runners in the Edinburgh Marathon, including daughter Laura.
