The club announced the signing of the former Ross County, Inverness CT, Hibernian and Dundee United midfielder shortly after revealing that Vaulks had completed his switch to English Championship side Rotherham

Rankin started his career at Manchester United as a youth before joining current Falkirk Technical Director, Alex Smith at Ross County. While at the Staggies he went on to make over 100 league appearances.

A switch to Inverness CT followed where he made more than 50 appearances before transferring to Hibernian. Rankin enjoyed a two-year spell with the Hibees and it was during this time that his stunning 45-yard strike against Celtic was christened, ‘the squiggler.’

From Hibernian the 33-year old moved to Dundee United and spent 5 years with the Tannadice club. Rankin was a firm favourite and his popularity with the support was clear when he announced at the end of last season that his time with the Terrors was over.

Following the departure of Will Vaulks earlier today Peter Houston made his move to sign up Rankin who has been training with the club over the past few weeks.

Falkirk manager, Peter Houston commented: “John is a hardworking and honest pro who has looked extremely fit and sharp over the past few weeks.
