Why can't the second bottom team in the Premiership play the fourth team in the Championship with the winner facing the team that emerges victorious from the third v second Championship contest? Livingston had to face Stranraer last week. Or- an even more revolutionary solution would be the top to go up and the bottom two to be relegated.

RACE NIGHT

Friday May 27th is the Race Night in aid of the Bring Gordy Home campaign. The organisers are hoping for a big turn-out to help swell the coffers in this most worthy cause. Anyone who saw the pictures of Gordy at the Raith game will know how much this would mean to him and his family.

FALKIRK F C FOUNDATION

Great to see that the Falkirk F C Foundation have set up a Football Memories group for older supporters. Their first meeting was on Monday morning this week at the Stadium. Look out for details of meeting schedules in future editions of The Falkirk Herald or on the Foundation website.

FOXY BAIRNS

Reader Alison Forbes has contacted us to let us know of little-known a Falkirk-Leicester connection. Her great uncle was Jim McLaren, born in Stenhousemuir, and played for Leicester in their great side from 1927 to 1933. After starting out with The Warriors, he played for Bradford City before moving to Filbert Street in May 1927. In 1928, The Foxes finished third in the top flight and went one better next time around. Until this season that was their greatest achievement in league terms.

If The Shire do go out of the league, it will be a sad day for local football. Friendly rivalry, leg-pulling and good-natured local banter always highlighted the town rivalry and in the days before away travel was made easier, many Falkirk fans went along to see the likes of Swan, McQueen, Craig, Collumbine, Hammill, Coburn, Sandeman and McIntosh. The Scotsport cameras were there for their first First Division game against Kilmarnock in 1963 and there was a huge crowd there.
