Bairn in Scotland squad

Tony Gallagher has been called up for national duty with Scotland, but Craig Sibbald and Kevin O'Hara have been snubbed.

Defender Gallagher is among the under-17s Scotland squad for the upcoming UEFA European Under-17 Championships Elite Round in the Czech Republic at the end of this month.

There he and his team-mates will face Denmark, Switzerland and the hosts.

Striker O’Hara has represented Scotland in the Victory Shield and has been in and out of Peter Houston’s first team this term.

But there was no call-up for the young forward who has yet to find the net in a top level match.

And he’s not the only surprising Falkirk omission from the squads announced today as the Scottish FA has yet again snubbed Craig Sibbald.

The 20-year-old will mark 200 appearances for Falkirk should he play in each of the remaining games this season and the Bairns win their opening two-legged promotion play-off.

Yet he has still not been recognised by the national side since being called into an under-19s training camp with John Collin in Kilsyth back in August 2013.

Sibbald has caps for Scotland at under-15 and under-17 level but also qualifies for England and the Republic of Ireland.

Peter Houston admitted this week, “I’m not expecting a call-up for Craig but if it came then it would certainly be deserved.”

The Bairns boss admitted he had made inquiries last season as to why his Scottish Cup semi-final match-winner hadn’t been included in squads and then selector Danny Lennon told him the midfielder had come “very close” but just missed out.
