East Stirlingshire’s assistant manager and all time leading goalscorer Andy Rodgers has left the club.

The Shire made the announcement on Monday that the 37-year old striker would be leaving both his playing and managerial roles with immediate effect.

Experienced coach and former Shire manager John Brownlie will step in to the role as assistant to Derek Ure.

A statement released by the club said: “Club Manager Derek Ure has decided to change his backroom team and the club can announce that Assistant Player Manager Andy Rodgers has today left the club both from his Assistant Manager role and as a player.

"Current Coach John Brownlie will step up to become assistant manager until the end of the season.

“Andy recently equalled the club all-time goalscoring record and has been instrumental over the seasons at the club in giving everyone some very special moments and goals to remember and without doubt his goalscoring achievements will remain in the Shire record books for many years to come.

"The club wish Andy well in the future and thank him for many fond memories.”

Rodgers released a brief statement via his social media after the news broke which read: “I am absolutely devastated to be leaving East Stirlingshire but unfortunately the decision has been taken out of my hands.

"I’ve loved every minute of my time at the club and I’m extremely proud of what I have achieved including being the club’s all time record goalscorer.”
