Linlithgow Cricket Club lose by 135 runs at Kelso

Last Saturday a severely depleted Linlithgow 1st XI made the long journey to Kelso to take on Morton CC. Morton won the toss and elected to bat first.

Morton made an impressive 303 for 9 from their 50 overs in the Borders.

The pick of the bowlers for Linlithgow was experienced Will Nettleton who ended with three wickets for 60 runs from his 10 overs.

In response to this huge total, Linlithgow made a steady start with openers Craig Black, 24 runs and Will Nettleton, 25 runs, sharing in an opening stand of 50 runs.

Wickets fell at regular intervals and Linlithgow were never really in the hunt to chase down the total.

Linlithgow finished on 168 all out, losing the match by 135 runs.

Top scorer for Linlithgow was Safeer Ahammed who made 33 runs.

Importantly Linlithgow collected eight bonus points from the trip which keeps them in the hunt for surviving relegation this season with three games remaining.

Meanwhile, also last Saturday, at Boghall, Linlithgow’s second 11 took on a strong Watsonians side.

Watsons one the toss batted first.

They would make 239 from their 40 overs.

Gary Kellet picked up three wickets for 43 from his eight overs.

Linlithgow were bowled all out for 150 runs, with veteran Kevin Stump making 65 runs. Linlithgow collected five bonus points from the match.

Next Saturday Linlithgow 1st XI take on Penicuik at Boghall hoping to bounce back in what will be a hugely important tie in deciding who remains in the Eastern Championship next season.
