Pupils from Ladeside and Carronshore swept the board at the recent primary schools’ cross-country championships.

The final leg of the 2012/13 competition was held at Sunnyside playing fields in Camelon last week and confirmed the overall winners from the three events.

Ladeside Primary took three team awards, three gold medals, a pair of silvers and one bronze. Carronshore was next with two team golds, and two individuals and a silver.

The weather was once again kind considering the snow, wind and gales that have been experienced recently.

In good conditions the soft course provided a tough challenge for the 500+ excited Primary 5, 6 and 7 runners who were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of parents, grandparents and school helpers.

Members of the Falkirk Victoria Harriers marshalled the event and the club would like to thank everyone involved in making the three matches held throughout the season such a success. In particular Caroline Lawless, league administrator, Jane Borthwick, St. Andrews First Aid Association, Falkirk Community Trust, Active Schools team and volunteers from Falkirk Victoria Harriers as well as schools staff and helpers.

Over a difficult winter season which unusually saw a match re-scheduled twice and a course within Callendar Park having to be altered due to flooding there was a closely fought individual and team competition across all stages with the trophies only being decided at the last match where several podium positions changed. The annual prizegiving in the Olympic Hall in Camelon Community Education Centre saw individual and school team awards and trophies presented.

However, all who took part in the league were winners - having improved their fitness as a result of training and competition.
