Wonky teeth? Central Orthodontics, Falkirk is taking on new NHS and private patients for orthodontic treatment
If your smile is not all you want it to be, your children’s teeth are not coming in straight or you’ve got a tooth that’s niggling you, then Central Orthodontics, Falkirk will have the answer for you.
Central Orthodontics, Falkirk is the only NHS orthodontic centre in Falkirk, carrying out teeth straightening and realignment for children and adults, and it also treats private patients who have not been referred by an NHS dentist.
New home; new equipment
Relocating from a small building near the station in the town centre, to Calendar Business Park five minutes’ drive away, will bring a host of benefits to patients – not least free designated parking.
The two storey building has lift access making it accessible for all, and has been fitted with brand new equipment throughout; ensuring patients will have the best experience with the latest equipment.
With four dedicated orthodontic treatment rooms, they will now be able to meet even more demand and can take on new NHS patients referred by dentists or arrange appointments with private clinicians.
Its consultants can advise patients on the best course of treatment for them and can refer people direct to hospital if required.
Children and adults
Orthodontics covers a wide range of re-alignment treatments. Children and young people up to the age of 23 can be treated under the NHS, if they have been referred by their regular dentist.
Regular dental check ups will pick up any issues with teeth alignment which, as Claire Morris, Orthodontics Operations Manager explained, it’s about more than just a nice smile.
“Having straight teeth and a properly aligned bite is more than just about looks. It’s about wellbeing and confidence, about being able to eat all foods properly and maintain good oral health.”
Straighter teeth are easier to clean – less chance of food becoming trapped in gaps or hard-to-clean corners, and a strong full-bite means no more denying yourself the food you love and need because you can’t bite properly.
What kind of braces are best?
This depends on the patient, what the treatment is and the patient’s preference, if they are a private client.
There are fixed metal braces, also known as train tracks, which are the most often-used method for realignment. Fixed ceramic braces are also train tracks, but they are more tooth-coloured so less visible and, although treatment can take longer, many people prefer how they look.
And then there are removable, clear aligners. These have the advantage that you can take them out if you want to – for that important meeting, or to eat that lunch you know would be tricky with braces in! However, the treatment time will be affected by how often they are worn and for how long.
