The Roman Empire may have fallen a very long time ago, but its influence will now live on with generations of Tamfourhill youngsters to come.

A new Roman-themed play park was officially opened at Tamfourhill Community Centre last Saturday as children took delight in getting to grips with the facility, staffed by some authentic-looking foot soldiers. Designed by Tamfourhill Tenants and Residents Association (TTRA) with support from schoolchildren, the idea to build a park in the area has been in the pipeline for the past five years.

And, after securing a £149,500 lottery grant, TTRA was able to lease the land from Falkirk Council for a ten-year period to construct the mightily impressive Roman fort.

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony was completed, excited youngsters soon stormed the park to play on a flying fox and have their pictures taken beside its wooden sculptures.
