Friends of Plean Country Park has been awarded funding from Paths for All to improve and strengthen the local community.
Groups like this can apply annually for our Community Path grant for up to £1500 to improve, upgrade or maintain their local community paths.
The aim of the grant is to bring local communities and volunteers together to improve their environment.
Each year we provide support, advice and training to community voluntary groups and registered charities such as community councils, development trusts and community woodland groups in Scotland.
As a registered charity, we seek to champion everyday walking in Scotland.
We want to get people walking – everyone, every day and everywhere, whether that’s leisure walking or active-choice walking to work, school or shops.
To accomplish this we work to create more opportunities and better environments, not just for walking but also for cycling and other activities, to help make Scotland a more active, more prosperous, greener country.
The Plean Country Park project, which the friends of the park hope will encourage more people to get outdoors and get involved with their community, involves improving both the drainage and surface of one of the main paths there.
The multi-use path was badly damaged by the heavy rains earlier in the year and the surface is very uneven.
As well as making the path easier to walk on, the Friends of Plean Country Park hope to increase community spirit and get more people involved in the project itself.
They are hosting a series of volunteering days which take place at the park today (Thursday), Sunday, September 25, and Thursday, October 15, between 10am and 3pm and are inviting everyone to go along and take part.
Please help out by giving some of your time – be it the morning, afternoon or the entire day.
The most important thing is for you to go along and have a great time, meet other volunteers and maybe even learn a new skill in the process.
Getting involved in a path development project like this is a great opportunity to feel part of the community and really gives a sense of pride and achievement to volunteers.
As well as feeling like you have contributed significantly to a place you enjoy, it is the perfect chance to have fun and share a laugh or two with other like-minded people.
