Youngsters step up for dance competition

The dance groups, from Bo’ness, Braes, Grangemouth, Larbert and St Mungo’s high schools, lit up the stage last Monday and Tuesday with their creative moves in both the junior dance section, for S1 to S3 pupils and the senior section, S4 to S6.

According to organisers the pupils, who develop all their own dance routines and choreography, really pulled out all the stops this year.

Over 450 pupils took part in this year’s competition, with Larbert High School taking the junior small category with Pretty Hurts and the overall junior title and Bo’ness Academy winning the junior large with The Animal Kingdom.

A competition spokesperson said: “It was a great competition with schools stepping up and creating some great imaginative pieces of choreography. Pupils put on a fantastic display of various genres and themes which the judges were extremely impressed with on both nights making the decision for winners very difficult.

“Thank you as well to the teachers and parents who helped with the organisation of the night and to the Froth Valley Schools Dance Committee who ran a great evening.”

Every year it is hoped that, by participating in the dance competition, young people – whether they are winners or not – will become more involved in dance, maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and become more confident individuals along the way.

This year’s competition built up plenty of confidence and also raised funds for So Precious, a charity dedicated to supporting neonatal, maternity and paediatric services in NHS Forth Valley.
