The forecaster said: “Heavy showers are expected to develop on Tuesday afternoon.

"Whilst most places will miss the worst, some showers could be slow moving and there is a chance of that 20-25 mm of rain might fall in an hour with perhaps 50 mm in three hours.

"The showers will ease during Tuesday evening.”

The yellow weather warning comes as some communities across the district are still clearing up after severe flooding early last Wednesday morning left many properties and cars under water. It also caused the Union Canal to breach having a major impact on train services on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line.

With the latest weather warning, members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and advice and information is available through Floodline by calling 0345 988 1188.
