The mums polled agreed they had received boring gifts from their children in the past, with some saying they’d received gifts such as a bag of horse feed, a frying pan, a garden gnome, a car seat cover and even compost for their special day!

Peter Trott, general manager at 118 118, said “We’re seeing more people access our service to organise fun activities around Mother’s Day, and families are beginning to reinterpret what it means to ‘treat mum’ by snubbing conventional gifts. Mums in the UK are obviously more adventurous than we thought, with some mums seeking out thrills in exciting days out with the family like pony treks, meerkat tours, craft retreats, helicopter flights and white water rafting!”
