Twitchers to descend upon Helix today for big birdwatch event

Falkirk's popular tourist destination The Helix will host a big birdwatching today.

The free event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, is part of the Big Garden Birdwatch, the world’s largest wildlife survey which documents how garden birds are coping with life across the UK.

More than half a million people take part and people from Falkirk can play their part too thanks to RSPB Scotland and the Helix.

An event spokesman said: “You can come and learn about Big Garden Birdwatch and take part in some fun activities that will set you up for a spot of birdwatching in your garden.

“You can also brush up on your bird identification skills with some fun games, before heading out into the park to see what birds you can find. Follow a fun nature trail across the park to discover animals and habitats of all types and fill in the bird survey sheets, return them to us and receive a Wild Time certificate and sticker.”

There is also an opportunity to construct your own bird feeder.

All activities begin at the Plaza Café by the Helix lagoon.
