Grangemouth’s Sacred Heart Church was full of family and friends to mourn the death and celebrate the life of a British Legion stalwart this week.

During Tuesday morning’s service conducted by Canon Leo Glancy, Jan Harvey (74), who died on December 16, was remembered as the first woman to become chairperson of the Royal British Legion Scotland and as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Provost Pat Reid, Falkirk Council Licensing Board convener Malcolm Nicol, British Legion representatives and friends looked on with Jan’s husband Peter and the rest of the family as one of Jan’s young grandchildren gave an emotional address about
her granny.

She said Jan was the glue that held the family together and was an excellent role model for her to follow when it came time for her to look after her own children and grandchildren.

A motorcycle honour guard from the RBLS Riders Branch escorted Jan to Falkirk Crematorium in Camelon and a piper played during the ceremony.

An afternoon reception took place at Grangemouth British Legion Club for people to share their fond memories of Jan.
