Tributes have been paid to former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy, who has died aged 55.
The former Highland MP was found dead at his Fort William home yesterday. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Kennedy won his first Westminster election aged 24 in 1983 to become the youngest MP in the country. He would serve for 32 years, but lost his seat in the Ross, Skye and Lochaber constituency to the SNP’s Ian Blackford last month.
Politicians from all major parties paid tribute to Kennedy’s life and work this morning.
Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said: “Such sad news that Charles Kennedy has passed away. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Angus MacDonald, MSP for Falkirk East, said: “Charlie Kennedy’s passing leaves a void in Scottish politics - a decent, good gentleman, gone far too early.”
