A national hotel chain is now searching for a location in Falkirk to site its new 60-room premises and create a £1 million boost for the local economy.

Travelodge is continuing to open new hotels in Scotland and the potential Falkirk development could be one of 10 built in the country in an ambitious £75 million expansion plan. If the proposals go ahead it would create 18 new jobs within the Falkirk area.

Travelodge already operates a successful 52-room hotel just off Beancross Road, which opened in 2007, but, according to the firm, demand is growing to such an extent it requires to build a new hotel to meet it.

Travelodge chief executive Peter Gowers said: “There is a big opportunity to further expand in Scotland. Customer feedback has highlighted there is a strong demand for a second Travelodge hotel in Falkirk.

“The number of corporate and leisure travellers visiting the town is growing year on year, therefore the demand for good value accommodation is outweighing current supply.
