Crane on fire on Falkirk district motorway

Motorists are advised a crane on fire is causing some disruption on the M876 this morning.

Emergency services are currently in attendance at the blaze on the motorway between Junction 2A (Labert) and the M80 interchange.

Traffic is queuing and one lane is closed on the southbound carriageway as firefighters deal with the incident.

A police spokesman said they were made aware of a crane fire at the side of the M876 Westbound (J1) around 7.30am.

They added: “Officers attended to assist with traffic management.

"There doesn't appear to be any injuries and currently only one lane is open.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.19am on Monday, July 27 to a large HGV crane on fire on the M876 at Bankhead junction, near Falkirk.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire.

“Crews left after making the area safe.”
