Man airlifted to hospital after leg is crushed

A worker was badly injured in an accident at a scrapyard.

It is understood the man, who has been named locally as Jim Orr from Brightons, suffered serious injuries after his leg was caught in crushing equipment.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the drama at the metal recycling yard operated by Angus Braidwood and Sons at Bankside Industrial estate, Castle Road, Falkirk, last Friday afternoon.

After initially being treated at the scene, he was later flown to hospital by air ambulance.

A friend of the injured man, who asked not to be named, said there were fears Mr Orr might have to have his leg amputated and added: “I hope the health and safety people do a thorough job.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance and air ambulance trauma team attended and the patient then flown to a hospital in Glasgow.”

The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed it is leading the investigation into the incident.

On WWednesday, the company said it was not in a position to comment.
