Torphichen Inn now home to amazing mural portraying a famous Burns poem

Seven murals have been created in The Torphichen Inn by graphic designer and artist Greg Moodie depicting the tale of Tam O’Shanter.

But the paintings have been given a unique twist because not only do they tell the tale of Tam and his journey but it is brought bang up-to-date to the 21st century and all the characters are portrayed by villagers.

Greg, who is originally from Dundee but has lived in Torphichen for the last ten years, said: “Owner Kenny Craig approached me and I thought it would be a good idea. I think he was expecting something a bit more traditional, but he was very enthusiastic for my ideas.

“The murals have had a great reaction, although I must admit that I wondered how it would go down, particularly when portraying villagers. But they all love it.”

Owner Kenny said he hopes that the murals could quickly become a tourist attraction.

He said: “I didn’t know what to expect and they are definitely different but absolutely fabulous. I always knew that I wanted it to be Tam O’Shanter and he has definitely nailed it for me.

Performing one of her last duties as the constituency MSP before the forthcoming election was Fiona Hyslop.

After viewing the artwork, she said: “The mural is a great piece of art and true testament to the community spirit of Torphichen, and I am delighted to mark its unveiling.”
