Over 100 people have already signed up to take part and organisers are hopeful the numbers will climb to a magical 240 people by the time it gets to Thursday to set a record and celebrate the distillery’s 240 years with a warming measure of The Glenturret Single Malt.

Supporting the attempt is Mhairi Fergusson, the reigning Miss Scotland and Miss World contender.

The 22-year-old visited the distillery recently as part of the filming for her promotional video of Scotland.

The video will be broadcast at the 65th Miss World pageant in Sanya, China later this year.

Mhairi said: “I truly loved visiting Glenturret Distillery and meeting the team behind one of Scotland’s finest malt whiskies.

“Whisky is such a big part of Scotland’s history and heritage. I think it would be great for Scotland to hold the world record for Raising a Dram and I’m really looking forward to being part of the fun on the evening and help claim that record.”

The World Record attempt and toast to The Glenturret’s heritage will be followed by a giant selfie to mark the special occasion.

The distillery are asking members of the public to sign up in advance, which will assist them with the official submission of evidence to Guinness World Records, by logging on to www.theglenturret.com and visiting the page dedicated to celebrating 240 Years.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the distillery will also throw open their doors that evening to the public with complimentary walk-through distillery tours and pop-up catering from the award winning Wilde Thyme at Glenturret.

Stuart Cassells, general manager at The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery, said: “Our ‘raise a dram’ world record attempt is the perfect way to mark 240 years of Glenturret Distillery, standing alongside members of the public and whisky lovers from the area.

“We’ve been raising a dram here on this site for 240 years which is incredible.

“So, if you’d like a warm welcome, a delicious dram and to be part of Glenturret Distillery’s history then please come along at 5.00p.m. on November 5. It would be fantastic if we could gather 240 people, one person for every year Glenturret Distillery has existed.”
