A spokesman said: ‘‘Heavy, thundery showers are expected to break out on Tuesday afternoon. These will be slow moving, and while many places will miss the worst, they will bring some localised torrential downpours.

‘‘The public should be aware of the possibility of surface water flooding and travel disruption.’’

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to remain high into and through the weekend but scattered showers will affect many areas.
