Stephen McCallum (28) kicked out as they attempted to place him in a police van.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, McCallum previously pled guilty to the assaults he carried out on the officers in Falkirk High Street on July 16 last year.

The court heard the attacks took place just after noon. McCallum was struggling with officers and more arrived to get him in the police van, it was then he kicked out with both his legs and hit the pair.

Defence solicitor John Mulholland said: “He does not seek to minimise his involvement in this offence, but he has been out of trouble for a few years now.”

Sheriff Craig Caldwell said: “This is indeed a serious matter, as any assault on a police officer is.”

Taking account of the circumstances of the case and McCallum’s previous lack of offending, Sheriff Caldwell placed him on a supervised community payback order for a period of 12 months.

He added that McCallum, 39 Kilbrennan Drive, Tamfourhill, must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work within the next six months.
