Gairdoch United’s 2005
Academy team has almost reached the total it needs to fly over to Spain and take part in the prestigious Barcelona Cup in April.

Alan Cruse, Gairdoch
United FC 2005 Academy team secretary, said: “We are almost at the end of a long journey of fundraising which will help pay for our boys to go on this once in a lifetime trip.

“At the Barcelona Cup tournament we will be competing against teams from all over the world and are the only team representing Scotland at our age group. We may even face the FC Barcelona youth team.”

Away from the football field the lads and their families and friends have taken part in a sponsored walk, organised a race night, created an autumn football festival at Little Kerse, did a spot of bag packing in Smyths Toys on Black Friday, held a “cycle to Barca” event on an exercise bike and also received donations from local companies.

The team will be hosting a spring football festival on Sunday at Little Kerse and are still seeking a sponsor for the event.
