At a meeting of Falkirk Council’s planning committee on Tuesday members discussed MacTaggart and Mickel’s oft-delayed plans for up to 550 houses and commercial properties at land to the north of Watson Place and Glasgow Road in Longcroft.

Planning convener Billy Buchanan said: “This has been around for a number of years and we keep seeing it in reports. The need for housing is getting critical and we have got to be clear major progress is being made here.”

Planning officers said there was now a final agreement on the Section 75 planning obligations and the applicant is now in the process of discussing this latest set of guidelines with other landowners – including Falkirk Council.

Officers stated they were confident things were now coming to a conclusion and recommended the committee give the applicants more time to allow negotiations to take place.

Members agreed the matter be brought back to committee at the end of November for further consideration and potential refusal if no progress is made.
