Staff and pupils evacuated after blaze breaks out in Falkirk primary school

Four fire appliances rushed to a local primary school after a fire broke out in the kitchen of the premises this morning.

The incident happened at Laurieston Primary School, in School Road, just before 10.30am.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.26am on Thursday, August 13 to reports of a fire at a school in Falkirk. Operations Control mobilised four appliances to Laurieston Primary School, where firefighters were met by a fire within the school's kitchen.

“Crews currently remain on the scene working to extinguish the fire. All pupils and staff have been evacuated to a place of safety and there are no reported casualties.”

A Falkirk Council said: “There was a fire within the kitchen at Laurieston Primary School this morning. All children and staff were evacuated safely. Scottish Fire and Rescue were in attendance and the fire has been extinguished.

“Officers are currently assessing the damage and it is anticipated that the school will be open tomorrow, with contingency arrangements for lunch. Pupils are being sent home where possible, or looked after by the school staff in the local park.”
