Two delighted parents are celebrating the safe arrival of their first child – and a remarkable coincidence.
While mums and dads rarely forget the birthdays of their children anyway, Kevin Reddy and Lindsay McDonald will never have an excuse for ever making that mistake – because baby Aidan shares the date with BOTH of them.
The first addition to the happy family was born in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, at 3.31pm on April 14 to keep the remarkable coincidence going.
Aidan was actually due to be welcomed into the world on April 5 – but kept his anxious parents waiting nine days just to make sure he will celebrate the same extra special day with them.
Kevin, a 31-year-old self employed labourer, thought Lindsay (22), his partner for the last six years, was “joking” when she announced she thought she was going into labour on the day the pair had just congratulated each other on their own birthdays.
But she was not kidding, and within hours Lindsay was in the safe hands of the maternity staff and baby Aidan David Martin Reddy finally ready to make his grand entrance.
Kevin said: “We obviously didn’t plan it this way, but what a great thing to happen, it just added to all the excitement. Lindsay and I are thrilled and so are our parents.
“Even the maternity staff were pleased for us and said it was very unusual. They even arranged for a birthday cake to be brought in and they all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to the three of us which was a brilliant surprise and a really nice thing to do.”
Baby Aidan weighed in at just over 8lbs and is now settling in at the family home in West Boreland Road in Denny.
Proud dad Kevin added: “He’s a great wee lad and already being spoiled by everybody. He’s special to us and my parents Martin and Rosemary and Lindsay’s mum and dad, Catherine and Russell, because he’s the first grandchild for both families.”
