A yellow warning of wind and snow issued by the Met Office remains in force with the forecast being for a bitterly cold day with sunny intervals and sleet or snow showers.

Further accumulations of snow are expected mainly over higher ground while the gale force westerly winds will continue and may be severe at times.

Conditions should ease on Sunday with a mainly dry, cold and cloudy start to the day.

There may be some snow falls but these are expected to give way to rain or sleet as the day progresses.
