Slimmers zip their way to charity target

Members of local Slimming World groups raised the bar when it came to charity efforts on Saturday as they leaped off a crane 100 feet over the River Clyde.

The brave fundraisers - who attend classes in Larbert and Kincardine run by consultant John Aitkenhead - signed up for the zip slide challenge several weeks ago but, as the big day dawned, there were some nervous looks on many of the faces, especially when they spied the towering crane that was preparing to hoist them into the air above Glasgow.

However, helped by the lovely weather and enthusuatic support of the team, all 22 made good on their commitment - even if some needed a wee push to get them over the edge! - and their efforts were well rewarded with more than £3000 raised for Alzheimer Scotland.

John’s wife Claire, who organised the event as well as taking part herself, said: “A fantastic day was had by all and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part. I’m delighted we managed to raise so much for for this amazing cause.”
