Severe delays to Falkirk and Linlithgow trains

Commuters leaving from Falkirk High train station are facing delays this morning after thieves tried to steal cable from the line.

Trains have been operating on a reduced service causing severe delays following the attempted theft of signalling cable between Croy and Falkirk High through the night.

Scotrail said earlier this morning that trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk weren’t able to call at Falkirk High, affecting only trains to Edinburgh.

Trains are also likely to be delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised and disruptions are expected to last until 1pm today.

Severe delays are affecting services including Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley on the hour and at 30 minutes past the hour calling at Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Croy, Falkirk High, Polmont, Linlithgow and Haymarket.

From Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street at 15 and 45 minutes the hour calling at Haymarket, Linlithgow, Polmont, Falkirk High, Croy and Lenzie. Journey times will be extended by up to 15 minutes as a result, say Scotrail.

A statement on Scotrail’s website said: “We apologise for the delay to your journey today. To make a claim under our Delay Repay Guarantee, visit ScotRail.co.uk/delay-repay.”

Police are investigating the attempted theft.
