THE SEARCH for the bodies of an elderly brother and sister believed to have been killed by a fire near Denny was still continuing yesterday (Wednesday).
Hopes that farmer David Millar (65) and his sister May (75) had somehow
survived the blaze that gutted their home at Castlerankine Farm in the
early hours of Friday had faded this week.
The deadly fire ignited at the property, two miles from Denny town centre, at around 3.30 a.m. on December 9.
Firefighters rushed to the remote spot afterneighbours raised the alarm at 3.45 a.m. By the time fire appliances arrived at the scene the house
was already completely engulfed by flames so high they could be seen from
across the district.
Such was the ferocious intensity of the blaze that it re-ignited shortly after it was first extinguished.
Members of Central Scotland Fire and Rescue spent the weekend dampening the ruins of the farmhouse.
