Members of the community decided to bring the gala day back after an absence of almost 20 years and the Gods smiled down on Saturday as the sunshine helped make it a day to remember.
The procession left from the community centre and paraded through the streets to Victoria Park for the crowning ceremony and festivities.
Committee member Angie McArthur said: “As a committee we were a bit apprehensive of how the day itself would go and just wanted to do the kids and the community proud, after all the day itself it was for them.

“It was a lot of hard work and months of planning but we enjoyed doing it. We’d like to thank the community for getting behind us and making the day itself such a success, the response from everyone out lining the procession route was fantastic and a little overwhelming for us all.
“Another thanks goes to our Provost Pat Reid for taking on the task of judging the gardens, a task that none of the committee were keen on as we couldn’t decide due to them all being fantastic.
“Also, we want to thank the kids and their families, without them it wouldn’t happen. All the rehearsing and practising paid off as they were absolutely brilliant on the day, they stole the show and thoroughly deserved the applause from the crowds.
“The day itself only had a few little setbacks but nothing that we couldn’t overcome and it’s all experience for next year. We’re already under way with plans for our first fundraiser for Grahamston Gala Day 2017.”
