Fiona Thomson (17) won her eighth beauty title in the past year when she took the £100 first prize in Saturday’s Miss Grangemouth competition.
The dark haired pre-nursing student from St Ninians, Stirling, triumphed over another 27 lovely girls who entered the contest held in the town hall. Fiona’s hobbies including reading and listening to progressive and experimental music and her big ambition is to make her stage debut as a singer in a folk group before entering nursing as a career next year. Blond laboratory technician Jennifer Soltysek (24) from Glasgow took the runners-up prize of £50 and Jeanette White, a 24 year old fashion model from Livingston, took third prize and £25.
Fourth prize of £15 went to 17 year old Jacqueline Codona of Carron, a lab assistant.
The prizes were handed over by Provost William Ure and last year’s centenary queen, Myra Paton, presented the new Miss Grangemouth with her winner’s sash. Including the Provost, the judges were Brian McMillan (Players’ Cigarettes), Ken Waddell (Herald editor), Colin Liddell (Evening News) and Ian Kyle (Grangemouth Advertiser).
