Pulling for hospice in 60th year in business

A successful haulage firm marked its 60th year in business by donating £60,000 to Strathcarron Hospice.

Grangemouth’s John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing celebrated the major milestone by handing over a cheque at the hospice in Denny during an official ceremony which included a special John Mitchell truck complete with Strathcarron Hospice livery.

Director Iain Mitchell said: “The hospice is our charity partner and we recently met our target of raising £60,000 for a local charity during our 60th anniversary year.

“Hot on the heels of our special Diamond Anniversary fund raising Burns Supper, organised by the company and family friend Liz Hallam, we presented a cheque for £60,000 to the hospice.”

John Mitchell started the business in 1956 with one second hand Albion lorry operating from Grangemouth. In 1973 the firm moved to a purpose built three acre haulage depot with new offices, workshop and storage facilities in the town’s Earls Road and continues to expand.

The company is still family owned and managed by Iain, who carries on the legacy established by his parents through ever changing times.

John Mitchell Haulage has earned a number of industry awards over the last decade, including the prestigious Motor Transport, UK Haulier of the Year award in 2002 and Transport News Scottish Haulier of the Year 2016.
