A mum’s dedication to helping others has won her an award.

Gillian Mustard from Polmont was one of just four students to receive a special award from West Lothian College where she is studying on the Professional Development Award Childhood Practice course.

The 44-year-old was named ‘Wellbeing Student of the Year’ at the college’s graduation ceremony last week.

As well as balancing her work and family commitments to complete her own coursework to a high standard, Gillian’s experience in the sector saw her take on the role of mentor to her fellow students.

Modest Gillian, manager of First Adventures Nursery in Linlithgow, said: “I’m not sure I did anything special to deserve it.

“I just did what I always do and try to help those who need it.

“If people need advice and come to me, then I’ll do my best to help, probably because I’m used to helping others through my work as a nursery manager.”
