Probus Club

The life and works of Robert W. Service, born in England, raised in Scotland, found fame in Canada, and who retired to France, captivated members of Polmont Probus Club last week. The engaging account of the former bank employee who went on to make his name and fortune as the Bard of the Yukon - “The shooting of Dan McGrew” was among his more famous works - was offered by John MacKay from Cumbernauld who took time to read extracts from several works and explain the conditions in which Service found himself when he wrote them. The vote of thanks was offered by Sandy Simpson.
