Rotary Club

Brian Glanville chaired his first meeting since taking over as President of Polmont Rotary Club. He introduced the speaker, one of our own members and newly appointed District Governor of Rotary District 1020, Andy Ireland. Andy wished to address his own club before going on the road to all the other clubs in 1020. He began by thanking all who attended and supported him and Jacquie at the D.G. Handover Dinner then went on to outline his trip to San Diego and spoke about the inspiration he received being part of the Rotary family charged with bringing the theme of Be a Gift to the World. Service in our communities and our world is a significant part of what Rotary is about and in particular the work that Rotary’s own charity, Foundation, does bringing essential aid to millions throughout the world. Issues concerning clubs and districts were mentioned and although 1020 seems to be in reasonable health, with an increase in membership, we should not be complacent. Andy suggested we should use this year’s theme to look to the future as we seek to be a GIFT to the world. Polmont Rotary is part of the generations of Rotary who have served in the international arena and done amazing work. However, we should never forget that Rotary should be about fun, fellowship and foundation and using our talents to be a GIFT to the world as we all have something to give as we seek to alleviate poverty and illness around the world. After his speech, Andy took some questions from members before the vote of thanks from President Brian who accepted a banner from D.G. Andy. On behalf of the club President Brian wished Andy and Jacquie all the best in their Rotary year. Information on Polmont Rotary Club can be found on our website atwww.polmontrotary.org.
