President Brian Glanville was in the chair for the weekly meeting of Polmont Rotary Club. After dinner and some business, Rotarian Ken Donald introduced Mrs Sheena Dunsmore from Kidney Kids. Sheena was instrumental in setting up the Charity in July 2000 to help children with renal illness and their families. The Charity has gone from strength to strength and continues to support families from all over Scotland. Kidney Kids was a beneficiary from Polmont Rotary Club’s Swimarathon event and received £3500 to buy a Scanner. Sheena explained that the Kidney Kids Scotland supports hospitals all over Scotland, supplying them with much needed equipment and funding for posts recognised as being essential. Kidney Kids works closely with and relies on the expertise of Consultants, Medical and Welfare personnel to identify where the Charity can best provide help. Kidney Kids Scotland has been instrumental in funding and developing The Paediatric Renal Network in Scotland. Over the past fourteen years Kidney Kids Scotland has distributed just under one and a half million pounds towards the treatment of children in Scotland suffering from renal and urology problems. Sheena gave the club an explanation of the problems and difficulties children experience ranging from simple treatments to a transplant and sadly many go on to have a number of transplants. Kidney Kids also helps with family weekends, transplant games, family meetings, financial support and nurse support. After a good number of questions, the vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Graham Smith. Information on Polmont Rotary Club can be found on our website at www.polmontrotary.org/
