SNP MSP for Falkirk East, Angus MacDonald, has welcomed the funding which is part of a £50 million Scottish Government package for the sector across the country.

The cash will help address immediate challenges facing the social care sector as Health & Social Care Partnerships try to ensure the system is as well placed as possible to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

These costs include providing temporary staffing to cover increased demand and cover for sickness, supplies of personal protective equipment and the creation of additional capacity and support to care homes and care at home providers.

Mr MacDonald said: “The social care sector is at the frontline of the current pandemic and will inevitably face additional costs.

“I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone in Falkirk district when I share my gratitude towards those working in social care, and all of our frontline key workers, who are doing vital work in the most difficult of circumstances.”

Welcoming the funding, Patricia Cassidy, Chief Officer, Health & Social Care Partnership said: “This will help address the immediate cost pressures currently being incurred as a result of the pandemic.”
