At the launch of the Party’s 2017 Scottish Local Government Elections manifesto, Taking Falkirk District Forward, before an audience that included SNP MPs John McNally and Martyn Day, Group Leader Cecil Meiklejohn said: “Thanks to the Westminster Government local government has gone through a financially challenging time and the Labour administration of Falkirk Council has been ineffective because they are in bed with the Tories.

“The SNP will do things differently. It will redesign services and give communities a say about how they are delivered. The SNP will protect our vulnerable elderly and the young and work with partners to mitigate the impact of poverty.”

Mrs Meiklejohn said regenerating the local economy, accelerating the social housing programme to cut waiting lists and teaming up with the private sector to deliver affordable housing will priorities.

She told the SNP candidates who will challenge for 15 seats across nine Falkirk Council wards next month: “May 4 is the chance to end the Labour/Tory alliance within Falkirk Council and put in place an alternative, progressive administration that
better represents the values of the people of Falkirk and district.”
