SNP chooses Edinburgh Western candidate for Scottish Parliament election

Originally from Aberdeen, Sarah (28) moved to Edinburgh to study Drama and Performance at Queen Margaret University and built a career in theatre.

Speaking about being chosen as the SNP candidate, she said: "I am driven by the desire to ensure that we live in a Scotland that is inclusive and ambitious and returns to take its place in Europe.”

Sarah cites the particular inspiration that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has provided to her, especially in her dealing with the pandemic, but is also keen to point to other female leaders around the world.

Locally, she says her focus is on congestion and pollution, wanting a “more solution driven joined-up approach” to transport issues.

Sarah also talked of her concern about the recovery from the pandemic.

She said: “I want to play my part in supporting the SNP Government in building back better – with quality jobs and training, building on investments like the £285.6 million of support given to Edinburgh businesses.”

She added: “I am very proud of the record of the Scottish Government and what that has meant locally, like the building of the new Queensferry High School and the new social houses in Muirhouse, part of the 95,600 affordable homes built in Scotland.

"I want to make sure this continues, by working with the Scottish Government to do all I can for Edinburgh Western.”
